If An Item Says "Special Order" Does That Mean I Can't Return It?
Special order items are only returnable if:
1. There is a defect in workmanship. ** (Defects in workmanship are usually covered under the manufacturers' warranty. We will do our best to help you with your claim.)
**Please keep in mind, items with braiding, beading or cowhide may vary slightly in color or style from the photos on the website. This is because each item is unique, and natural variances in the color of hide, leather or rawhide are part of the appeal of this kind of tack. These differences are not considered "defects."
2. You receive the wrong item. ("Wrong Item" means an item significantly different from the item you actually ordered; such as receiving a one ear bridle when you ordered a browband style bridle.)
3. In some circumstances new, unused, special ordered items, (such as bridles) can be exchanged for another item in a different size/style. (Provided we carry other sizes or styles of that item.) Any remaining differences in cost, between the item being exchanged, and the new item(s) being purchased, will be given as store credit only. There are no cash refunds on special ordered items.

How do I know what my order will cost to ship?
Shipping and handling charges for online orders: are calculated by weight. Prices average between $3.99-19.99 per shipment (within the continental US.) * A "Surcharge" Might Apply To "Oversize" Or "Hazardous" Items. These items' individual weights may appear incorrect in the cart because they ship with an "oversize package" surcharge, which is added to the normal shipping charge by the carrier. For those items which are notated "Oversize" or "Hazardous to ship" in the item's description: Purchasing multiples of these items at once will save on the shipping costs per item. You can ship up to 4 "hazardous" items at once. Up to 12 "oversize" items can ship for one lower combined fee. See your checkout cart for details. You will be able to see the shipping costs calculated before you finalize your purchase. * The Shipping & Handling Charges Explained Above Apply To Orders Shipped To Physical Addresses In The USA (Lower 48 States Only). Shipping or delivery charges for local orders in Houghton/Baraga/Ontonogan County: Orders placed over the phone, online or in-store usually range between $2.00 - $5.00 for shipping, depending on size/weight.
We offer free delivery to Houghton/Hancock residents, with a $45 minimum purchase required.

How long will it take to get my order?
Orders ship in 1-2 business days, and shipping times vary by location, generally 3-7 business days to destinations outside of Michigan. See UPS zone chart for details. Small packages may be shipped USPS at our discretion.
We Cannot Ship To P.O. Boxes, *providing only a P.O. box will delay your order.* We Do Not Offer Expedited Shipping, but at our discretion, we may ship small heavy items Priority Mail.

What if my item is backordered?
Due to circumstances beyond our control, all products may not be available all the time. Backorders will be sent out as soon as they arrive in stock, unless you notify us to cancel any backorder before it has shipped. You will not be charged additional shipping for backorders that are sent separately from your main order. If we believe the item(s) will remain out of stock for longer than 10 business days, your payment for that item will be refunded immediately. We cancel most backorders under $20 automatically. Customer may keep the credit or we will process a refund.

What if I need to make a return or exchange?
If you are not completely satisfied with an item, you may return it within 10 days of having received it. The item must be new, unused and in its original condition; including all parts, accessories, tags and packaging. Return shipping costs (if applicable) are non-refundable, unless the item is being returned as a result of our error (defective or wrong item sent). For your protection, send your return insured. We are not responsible for returned items that are lost or damaged by the shipping company, however, in most cases we should be able to help you file your loss claim.
Returns must be prepaid. Save your shipping receipt and tracking number for proof of return. Certain items, such as saddles, may be subject to a 20% handling and restocking fee. Due to safety standards and other regulations, we cannot accept returns for items in the following categories: Bits, Undergarments, Food Items, Supplements, Dewormer, Special Orders (non-stock or large quantities of in-stock items), and Discontinued/Clearance Items. Personalized items cannot be exchanged or returned. DVDs, CDs and Books can be exchanged for same title only, if a defective item is received.

What if I didn't receive an item I paid for?
If an item is missing from your order, damaged, defective or incorrect, you must contact us by phone or email within 5 days of receiving the item/package so that our customer care specialist can explain what steps need to be taken to resolve the issue. If an item is omitted from your order, it may be backordered. Items that are backordered usually ship out within 10 business days. It will be notated on your packing slip if an item will be arriving separately from your main order, or has been backordered.

What if I received the wrong item?
The owner of Darkhorse Saddlery personally oversees the packing of every item sent. Great care is taken to prevent errors and inconveniences to the customer. In the rare occurrence that a wrong item is received, we will ship (without additional charge) a new item upon receipt of the incorrect item. We will also refund your return shipping fees on the incorrect item at the same time. If the error is determined to be yours and not ours, we will gladly exchange your item, but return shipping must be paid by the customer.

What if I used an item and I don't like it, can I still return it?
We cannot accept returns on any used or even slightly used items in these categories: bits, saddlepads, girths, blankets, riding helmets, boots, clothing, undergarments, food items/edible items, supplements, de-wormer, and personalized items. We do accept used headstalls and saddles back as a trade in towards a different (in stock) saddle purchased, (any amount remaining when purchasing a lesser priced saddle or headstall will be received in store credit only.) We also accept consignments of used saddles, we charge 15% only if the item sells, there is no fee if the item does not sell. Shipping costs or delivery (to our retail storefront) are the responsibility of the customer. You will be mailed a contract when you request one, or when we receive your saddle, whichever comes first. We purchase used DVDS, Books & Video Games at approximately 25% of their current value, depending on their condition. Original boxes and liners must be intact. We do not accept unplayable disks. Shipping/delivery charges (to our retail location) are the responsibility of the customer. For items with very minor blemishes or missing tags such as headstalls, saddles and stirrups, there will generally be a restocking or resale fee on the item (usually 25% to 50%) depending on it's condition when we receive it. Please call or email us to negotiate your return (or check with us first) before sending used items back to the store. Customers selling stolen property or initiating chargebacks on goods actually received, and/or non-returnable under our policy, will be prosecuted for fraud.

What if my item is defective or it breaks while still in warranty?
Defective items can be returned to the store within ten business days of purchase. After that, usually the item must be returned to the manufacturer. Please contact us by phone or e-mail to discuss the problem and we will try to help you make a claim with the manufacturer. If you need help with a guaranteed/manufacturer warrantied item, such as a saddle tree or a halter, read the instructions on the tag or the manufacturers' website, if it says "return to the store where you purchased it" bring it in or mail it to us and we will work with the manufacturer to replace or repair your item (at the manufacturers discretion.) Please understand, we always do whatever we can to help all of our customers with their claims, but manufacturers' warranties or guarantees never cover misused or abused items, or items used for other activities than they were intended. The manufacturer will deny your claim in these cases, and Darkhorse Saddlery or it's owners/management/affiliates will not be held liable for the repair or replacement of these misused items under any circumstances.

The items I want to order say "Oversize" or "Hazardous to ship" in the item's description. Why?
A Surcharge Might Apply To Oversize Or Hazardous Items. These items are notated "Oversize" or "Hazardous to ship" in the item's description. See descriptions below for details. Items marked "Hazardous" contain chemicals regulated by the shipping carriers. They charge us this fee when we ship these items, so we must add it to the cost of shipping. You can ship up to 4 "Hazardous" items together for one fee of $20. Certain items that are "Oversize" such as large roping or reining saddles, or long handled whips or manure forks can cause us to be charged an oversize shipping fee when we mail out your order. We charge this fee to the customer as follows: You can order more than one manure fork or lunge whip, (up to a dozen of each) but there will be only be one "oversize" charge. However, there will be one "oversize" charge on each large saddle mailed out. See each item's description for details.

Why did the price change on the item I wanted to buy?
Due to market volatility, or changes in our costs, our prices are subject to change without notice. Some products must be excluded from sales or discounts due to manufacturer guidelines. We are not responsible for typographical errors or omissions, and we reserve the right to change any price we find that is incorrect on our site. Other online sites condition customers to wait for "sales" to get a good price, we offer our best price everyday, so that you can buy with confidence. Our prices never go down a week after your purchase, they are always as low as possible at Darkhorse Saddlery! If we get a deal, you get a deal!

Do You "Price Match?"
If another online retailer beats our advertised price; on the identical item (including variables, such as our/their shipping costs or FOB charges) we will meet that price provided the retailer is an actual equine retailer. We do not match "going out of business" prices, prices from online "rummage sales," "clearance" prices, or prices set lower than manufacturers allow on certain price locked items. We must charge tax to Michigan residents by law, and we cannot adjust prices to exclude that tax. The shipping weight on my items seems incorrect in the checkout, why?
All items online have their shipping cost calculated by weight, however, some items are bulky, or oversize. These items' "shipping weight" appears as much higher than the items' actual, physical weight, because these items cost much more to ship. The "oversize" or "package dimension" charge is added on as additional "weight" charge to help account for the extra shipping cost we must pay when shipping out your order.

I want to purchase an item, but the shipping quoted on the item's page seems excessively high.
The minimum shipping cost for any order is $3.99 (within the continental US.) After the minimum, shipping costs are calculated by weight. For instance, the shipping cost stated on the item's page may be $3.99, and this stated price is what you will be charged if you order only that one single item. However, when ordering 2 items (whose shipping costs are stated $3.99 on each item) you will not actually be charged $7.98 for the shipping of those 2 items. Instead, you would be charged based on the weight of those items, (this applies only when purchasing multiple items.) Actual shipping costs calculated by weight will be able to be seen in the checkout before final order is placed. The more items you purchase per order, the more you save on shipping per item.

Accepted Payment Methods
I want to pay with PayPal but I cannot find the PayPal option in the cart!
If you would like to pay with PayPal, choose the "Alternate Checkout" method when viewing your cart. Two options will appear when you checkout, one is "Alternate Checkout" the other is "Pay with Google." For PayPal purchases, you would pick the first option, "Alternate Checkout" then fill in your information. The cart will then take you to the PayPal site where you finalize your purchase and transfer funds.
Can I pay with a money order?
Money orders are accepted on any orders under $300. To pay by money order, you choose the "Alternate Checkout" option when you are making your purchase in the shopping cart. Once you place your order, you would then mail a money order to cover your purchase and shipping charges to our address. Always put your order number on the money order, this helps us to serve you faster and with better accuracy.
Can I pay with a personal check?
E-checks are accepted through Pay Pal; from anywhere in the United States and Canada. Use the "Alternate Checkout" option when paying for your purchase, to access PayPal e-checks option. Or place your order by phone and ask to receive an invoice via Paypal. You give us your e-mail and we will send out an invoice with your total, you can then click the link and pay with e-check or credit card thru Paypal.
Personal checks are accepted from Michigan residents only. There is a mandatory waiting period of 14 days (for checks to clear) before merchandise is sent. This waiting period applies to Michigan residents living outside of Houghton, Baraga and Ontonogan Counties only. There is no wait if you live within Houghton, Baraga or Ontonogan County. To pay by check, you choose the "Alternate Checkout" option when you are making your purchase in the shopping cart.
